Committees

To strengthen our mission, Wisconsin Employment and Training Association, Inc. (WETA) has committees responsible for the planning and development of association and conference related activities. Brief descriptions of their duties follow.

Each committee is chaired by a Board member and made up of WETA members and other interested members of the Employment and Training community. The success of each group depends largely on input from those who volunteer to help. Please consider participating on a committee. Your contribution can make a big difference.

Awards Committee

Market the award process in order to receive adequate number of nominees.  Work with Marketing Committee on ideas to get more interest in the awards process.  As conference approaches, solicit awards nominations with phone calls or mailings.  Review applications for the following E & T awards:

Score applications and select winners.  Present awards at conference.  

Fiscal Funding Committee
Work on funding ideas, grant writing ideas to generate revenue for WETA to be used for annual conference expense, etc.  Develop an annual WETA budget in addition to conference budget development.  

Marketing Committee
Work on advertising and marketing strategies for WETA.  Assist with staffing the WETA display booth at conferences or events. Develop new marketing ideas to promote WETA website, mini-conferences and annual conference attendance. 

Training Committee
Brainstorm ideas on training sessions.  Follow-up on training session ideas generated from previous years conference.  Arrange, contact, and confirm presenters.  Choose training site, dates and times.  Reserve meeting space at chosen site.  Work with chair to get monies approved to pay for space.  Prepare flyers for training session mailings. Staff registration table at the training sessions.

Newsletter and Website Committee
Work on improving timeliness of delivery and increase to quarterly distribution of newsletters.  Gather or write articles, or do research to get information on articles as needed.  Coordinate the timeliness of completion, printing and mailing.  Brainstorm ideas on articles to include in newsletters.  Set article due dates, follow-up process to obtain articles timely and establish publication target dates.  Help in continued development and monitoring of additional information, changes and updates to the website.

Nominations Committee
Responsible for establishing, monitoring, and continually improving the nominations process for WETA Board members.  Will solicit and receive nominations for vacant Board Member positions; will work with candidates throughout the nomination process and offer a slate of recommended Board member candidates to the full membership for their vote at the annual meeting.  The committee will focus on WETA's commitment to representing its statewide constituency with an eye to diversity - geographic, ethnic and strategic.  

Scholarship Committee
Review applications for John Brasch, Harmon Memorial and Older Worker scholarships.  Assure they match scholarship criteria already established. Review criteria to assure it meets the vision and mission of WETA.  Score applications, select winners.  Put together bio packets on winners to be distributed in conference packets and send letters to those nominated who are not selected.  Assist in presenting scholarships at conference.  Discuss new scholarship opportunity to offer 1-2 free WETA conference attendance to program participants.  Present ideas on criteria and selection process for possible approval to add this scholarship to the 2001 conference plan.  

Conference Planning Committee

Budget Subcommittee (WETA Board Members Only)
Plan a conference budget.  Determine allocation for keynotes, travel, food, supplies, etc.  All committees report to budget committee to request budgets/money needed for each committee function. 

Employer Sponsorship/Door Prize Subcommittee  
Work with local Wisconsin Rapids area and surrounding local area businesses to acquire employer sponsorship money to be utilized for conference expenses (namely keynote speaker and travel costs, other miscellaneous expenses, etc.) and to acquire door prize donations for conference giveaways.  Pick-up and store door prizes until conference.  Keep a list of employer donations, money, or door prizes. 

Entertainment Subcommittee
Development of conference theme and color schemes, choose food choices for conference meals, plan decorations for conference (annual banquet, registration table, dance), plan activities at the dance and coordinate with President-Elect and hotel on band.  Work closely with Workshop Development subcommittee on conference theme correlation to workshop development. 

Keynote Subcommittee
Brainstorm ideas on keynote speakers (opening, lunchtime, and closing speakers).  Options to have keynotes do a Wednesday pre-conference session and breakout session.  Make phone calls to obtain information and follow-up to acquire desired keynote speakers. 

Registration Subcommittee
Work on conference  brochures, postcard or other mailings regarding conference.  Prepare session breakout evaluations and overall conference evaluations.  Prepare committee sign-up sheets to be used at registration for 2002 conference involvement.  Send thank you notes to workshop presenters upon completion of conference.  Work closely with marketing committee in development of marketing strategies for registration related work.  

Workshop Development Subcommittee
Committee members meet to categorize workshop breakout sessions, contact and confirm presenters, title & describe workshops, schedule and coordinate conference workshop breakout sessions. Make moderator packets to include speaker bios. Organize audio visual needs according to presenter requests. Work closely with the president-elect and entertainment committee to correlate conference theme with workshop development.
